Everything Changed After Dobbs

We all know Roe v. Wade was overturned and that American women lost their right to bodily autonomy in 2022, but what most don’t know is the evisceration of maternal healthcare access in the years since. In this session, we unpack how abortion bans have impacted everyone’s health with Politico Healthcare Reporter, Alice Ollstein, who is out with a new book documenting the system-wide harms brought by abortion bans and the devastating Dobbs Decision, and Center for Reproductive Rights’ Nancy Northup who uses the power of the law to advance reproductive rights as fundamental human rights around the world.

Moderated by Phoebe Gates, we also explore the power of Gen Z to lead the charge in transforming the media ecosystem that has shaped our understanding of and relationship to women’s bodies for decades. From film to the latest news headline, women’s bodies have been framed as objects of consumption, not investment, and women’s health has been cast aside as a “niche issue.” But what if the media we consume could help shift the narrative? In this session, Carri Twigg, expert at the intersection of media, politics and culture, spotlights the opportunity for the media landscape to position women’s bodies and health as worthy of study and respect.
